Grant County recorder records are searchable online through Tapestry and Laredo. Tapestry is a pay-per-search service with a credit card option and a 3% convenience fee. Vital Records
Birth and death certificates for events in Grant County are not issued by the county. The Indiana Department of Health handles them through the vital records office. How to Request Public Records
Indiana's Access to Public Records Act at IC 5-14-3-1 and IC 5-14-3-3 gives any person the right to inspect and copy most government records in Indiana. No reason is required for most requests. You can ask in person, by phone, by mail, or by email. A written request starts the seven-day response clock and creates documentation of the process.
If a request is denied or stalls, Indiana's Public Access Counselor provides free help at in.gov/pac. Call 317-234-0906 or email pac@opac.in.gov. The PAC can issue advisory opinions and often helps resolve issues without formal proceedings. Most disputes at the county level get resolved quickly once the PAC gets involved.
Some records are exempt from public access. Juvenile case files, certain law enforcement records, and personal data in agency systems may be withheld. The agency must name the legal basis for any denial. You can get any portion of a record that is not exempt even if part of it is withheld.
Business Records and Other Sources

Tapestry Pay-Per-Search and Credit Cards
Grant County offers Tapestry access for its recorder records. Tapestry charges per search, so it works well for occasional users who do not want a monthly subscription. Note that Grant County charges a 3% convenience fee on credit card transactions for Tapestry and Laredo access. If you are doing a large number of searches, that fee can add up. A Laredo subscription may be more cost-effective for frequent users.
For one-time property lookups, Tapestry is straightforward. Go to the Tapestry platform, search by name or parcel, and pay for the documents you need. You can get deed images, mortgage records, and other instrument copies without visiting the recorder's office in Marion. This is especially useful if you are researching a property from out of state or need a quick answer on encumbrances.
